Illegal charter is real and the consequences can be severe.  The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has established regulations to provided standards to the industry in effort to protect those in the sky and on the ground.

The FAA requires a Part 135 Certificate to conduct private charter. This required certification demands a higher level of scrutiny in operation with the intending result of a higher level of safety.  Requirements include ensuring your pilots have rested before taking flight, training, maintenance, insurance, drug and alcohol program requirements and many more additional areas of oversight.

 

Ask your private pilot if your flight is Part 135.
